After one last burst of sunshine that lasted through the National Holiday, we now start to notice that the days are getting shorter and there’s a definite chill in the night air. Autumn has truly come and over at Jason’s Library, they’ve come up with some new dishes to welcome the cooler weather. These are hearty dishes to keep you warm with lots of beef and sour cream – Mustard Meatball Linguine, Beef Stroganoff and Truffle Mushroom Pie & Roasted Beef.

When I heard the name of the pasta - Mustard Meatball Linguine (黄芥肉球酸扁面, 78RMB) – I thought it was a bit strange to have “mustard” in the name, but it was completely accurate because mustard really does play a prominent role in the flavour of the dish, adding a tangy kick to the sour cream sauce while a touch of tomato purée gives some sweetness. The bite-sized meatballs are stuffed with cheddar cheese to make this pasta dish even more tempting and delicious.

Beef Stroganoff (沙俄酸奶油牛肉, 98RMB) has tender, meaty strips of beef filet and mushrooms in a sour cream sauce, served with buttery mashed potatoes, carrots and peas.

With Truffle Mushroom Pie & Roasted Beef (松露蘑菇派与烤牛肉, 138RMB), you can indulge in pie with a rich, dense mushroom and truffle filling while on the side is a portion of sliced beef filet roasted to medium rare.

If you prefer a lighter meal and an alternative to beef, try the Cod Fish Fillet (锅煎鳕鱼排, 188RMB), a seared piece of cod with crispy skin and moist flesh. Instead of the usual mashed potatoes, you’ll get a dainty amount of mashed peas.

Fried Squid and Prawns (旋涡炸鱿鱼配对虾, 78RMB) has been on the menu before, but is now made in a new way that allows the squid to stay in tight neat swirls. The squid tube is cut open, laid flat, breaded, rolled up again and then deep fried. The breading inside the roll becomes soft and smooth, almost like cheese.

Jason’s Library is a speakeasy style restaurant and bar accessed through a secret bookshelf in a cookbook library. Once you enter the library, an attendant will open the secret bookshelf for you to slip through.
