In a quiet corner of the basement floor of the Kerry Centre, away from all the hustle and bustle of the upper floors is Hangzhou’s newest import. With origins in the United Kingdom, the team at Beleaf are in the business of health drinks and have a selection of excellently balanced mixes of fruits, vegetables and spices to let you get all of your recommended daily nutrition in a single cup.
When Beleaf say healthy, they mean healthy, as unlike a lot of their competitors they refuse to use frozen ingredients in their drinks. Concentrates, preservatives and added sugars are a big no no too, so anything you order will be 100% natural and 100% fresh to give you maximum flavour and nutrition in a single mouthful. Mixes typically contain 3 to 6 different ingredients, added in precise measurements to ensure the right balance of tastes and textures is achieved.
The menu is divided into 3 categories: juices, smoothies and ‘premium’ drinks - blends exclusive to Beleaf with more exotic content. We first tried their Alligator (45RMB): thick, smooth avocado paired with the sharpness of passion fruit that produces a filling, yet refreshing result. The Tahiti Spice (38RMB) had the sweetness of mango and passion fruit with a ginger kick and the Choco Loco (38RMB), a blend of pear, banana, avocado, coco, yoghurt and honey that is thick and packed full of enough goodness to keep the hunger at bay between meals.
Besides being great tasting and healthy, Beleaf also provide a range of drinks with more specific uses, including the ginger and lemon heavy Flu Fighter (34RMB) and the fruit-packed Enerjiiser (42RMB) to give you that extra boost to get through the day. For those on a cleanse, go for the Detox Special (33RMB), and for the gym enthusiast a handful of blends include protein powder such as the Peanut Power (45RMB) with fruit, yoghurt, honey and a large spoonful of chunky peanut butter.
