The low lighting and dark seating in MQ draws your eye to the centerpiece and pride of the bar - a huge lighting feature, similar to a chandelier, hanging over the bar staff’s workstation. Here is where you should aim to sit, the perfect place to watch to the creation of your drink and wind down, while the DJ sets the mood with some low-key house music.
MQ’s forte is cocktails, with a menu of inspired and unique drinks including twists on classics alongside more original mixes. The Tropical Mule (88RMB) used passion fruit and lemon flavours combined with rum to create a refreshing sour blend and the Summer Fizz (88RMB) would suit those with a sweet tooth. All cocktails are expertly made by a seasoned team of drink specialists, who are more than happy to make you something that can’t be found on their menu, or make a recommendation should you find it hard to decide what to order. While trying the cocktails here is a must, alternatives in the way of whiskey, wine and non alcoholic beverages are available.
If you find yourself peckish, bar snacks are at hand, mostly in sharing forms (Pulled Pork Tacos, 44RMB). If that’s not enough, and a full sit-down meal is what you are looking for, go next door to the attached Lakeside, a restaurant specialising in seafood: soups, stews, pastas, risottos, salads and platters, with an emphasis on, but by no means limited to, some of the best the ocean has to offer. Expect to pay around 200RMB per person.
Right now MQ are being very generous with their promotions. Their daily happy hour from 5:00pm-6:30pm includes buy-one get-one-free on house wines and sparkling wines, 50% on selected drinks from their happy hour menu, and best of all, 99RMB for a dozen oysters. Also, every Wednesday ladies will be able to enjoy select ‘bubbles’(champagne, prosecco etc) all night if they arrive before 10pm.
Open from 5pm to 2am. Located on the third floor of Jiebai Xin YuanHua shopping center. Smoking permitted, parking limited.
