One thing that was always hard to find in Hangzhou was a decent pool hall. That is, of course, until now. Located on the 2nd floor of the south tower at the Chengshi Shenghuo Plaza on Wantang Rd., 9 Club has set a new standard for billiards in our fair city, but to call this place just a pool hall would do it a disservice.
Spread out over hundreds of well-decorated square meters, the 9 Club can be divided into 2 distinct areas: one for billiards, and one for live music. With 18, brand new, BCN and Brunswick tables, at least 2 full-size, Riley brand, snooker tables, high-quality pool cues, and an array of accessories available for sale, this is, hands down, the best pool hall we’ve been to in Hangzhou. Hourly rates for the BCN tables will run you a not unreasonable 48RMB/hour, while the higher quality Brunswick tables will cost you 68/hour. Snooker will cost you 80RMB/hour. They also have a few trainers floating around who’ll be happy to challenge you and teach you new skills. There’s even foosball and air hockey to play on the off chance all the pool tables are occupied when you arrive. If you’re looking for a more intimate affair, they also have two, VIP rooms, replete with their own pool tables, KTV equipment, and private bathrooms. Call ahead for rates.
The other side of this expansive space sports a full-service bar, a full-size stage they use to host musical acts from both the local and national music scenes, and seating for upwards of 150 people. After speaking with the proprietors of 9 Club, they made it clear they’d like to have musical acts every night of the week if they could, so they encourage all of you singers and musicians to come on down. You might just become Hangzhou’s hottest new act. They also have big shows planned for every weekend of the foreseeable future, so if you’re into China’s indie music scene, this is the place to be.
Were you to go solely by the menu at 9 Club, you might think the place is on the expensive side, but when you take into account the daily all-you-can-drink draught beer specials (Only 30RMB Sunday through Tuesday, and 50RMB Wednesday through Saturday), and half-price rates on pool Monday through Thursday from 12:30pm to 6:00pm, you’ll find it easy to have a great time out with breaking the bank. So if you’re a pool shark hunting for a place to ply your trade, a fan of live music (or a performer of), then there’s a good chance the 9 Club is just the place you’ve been looking for. Check it out. You’ll be glad you did. Menu is, for the most part, bilingual. Parking is available street side.
