A proper place for all-day, everyday brunch is just what Hangzhou needed. That was also what Yolanda thought when she opened Brunch 304 at the Kerry Center. Having started 3 successful restaurants in Australia (including the original 304 restaurant in 2006 at Umina Beach near Sydney), Shanghai native Yolanda decided to bring brunch culture to China, not only brunch culture, but also Aussie standards for service and food quality.
Brunch 304 is the kind of place where you can wander in at any time of day, start with a strong cup of coffee to reboot your brain and then feast on an array of starch, protein and veggie dishes to help your body recover from the previous night of partying. When you mention brunch, the one dish that comes to everyone’s mind must be Eggs Benedicts and the version here is pretty awesome. A thin slice of house-baked rye bread is the vehicle to carry all the goodness of their 3 types of benedicts– Avocado, Prawn Mushroom and Ham.
In the Avocado Benedict (88RMB), smoked salmon, avocado, asparagus and spinach are laid over the rye bread, followed by 2 beautifully poached eggs glazed with a classic thick Hollandaise sauce. It will cure whatever ails you. Sweet Potato Rosti (88RMB) is similar to a benedict, but with 2 layers of savoury rosti sandwiching diced tomatoes and red kidney beans as the base. It’s substantial and hearty.
The Beetroot Quinoa Salad (69RMB) had loads of flavour with sundried tomatoes, quinoa, basil pesto dressing, Peri-Peri chicken and sweetened beet root. The beet root was cooked in balsamic vinegar and brown sugar making it as sweet as candy. You’ll be digging through the salad to find the beet root like searching for buried treasure.
There are other breakfast options like full breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage and other fixings (65-98RMB), omelet (75RMB), Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs (58RMB), Baked Chorizo Beans (75RMB) and Bircher Muesli (68RMB). For something sweet, there are pancakes with ice cream, fruit and maple syrup (65-75RMB).
Besides brunch, there’s also pizza, pasta and meat entrees like Slow Cooked Lamb Shank with Potato Mash, Lamb Jus (188RMB), Aussie steaks (188-258RMB) and Lamb Cutlets (168-238RMB).
With the festive party season upon us, now is a great time to check out Brunch 304. Reservations are strongly recommended on Saturdays and Sundays to avoid long waits for a table. The restaurant will not take reservations on New Year's Day. Customers will need to get a number ticket on arrival.
