We first reviewed Cuckoo Wasp’s first location in Zhongcai Mansion 2 years ago. They’ve recently opened a 2nd restaurant and we’ve come back for another look. The new restaurant is also in Binjiang on Huoju Avenue, across from Powerlong Mall.
The restaurant design is open and airy, with high ceilings, soft grey tones and light wood tables. Spread over 2 floors, the restaurant can sit many for large gatherings.
Similar to their other restaurant, the food here is a mix of mostly western (salads, soups, steaks, roasted seafood, pizza and pastas) and some Chinese (fried rice). We liked most of the dishes we tried today and a glance at the menu showed that prices are reasonable too.
First up was Avocado Salad (58RMB) with soft cubes of avocado dressed in a light, fruity olive oil vinaigrette with sliced onion for punchiness and some grape tomatoes on top.
Then came the Beef Salad (98RMB) with tender slices of Australian M7 wagyu beef over salad leaves with a drizzle of cream.
Cream Mushroom Soup (25RMB) was spot on, while the Cream Pumpkin Soup (25RMB) was a bit too thin.
The Mediterranean Fish (78RMB), a whole herbed fish oven roasted with sliced potatoes, was light and healthy and the Australian M7 Wagyu Beef steak (238RMB) was perfectly grilled and will satisfy your beef cravings.
The wine at Cuckoo Wasp is supplied by Summergate wine dealership, so you’ll find some nice bottles on the list such as the 2014 Chateau L’Hospitalet La Reserve Red and the Louis Auger French champagne we enjoyed today.
English and Chinese menu. Smoking is not permitted and parking is available.
