We know that it takes a special type of person to really enjoy museums. Few people ever read the intros to the pieces. While this isn't one of the most visited of museums in Hangzhou, when you're down in the Wushan area and have already done some souvenir shopping on Hefang street or had a stroll on the hill, why not pop in?
The Hangzhou Historical Museum is all about the city, so if you have always wanted to know what went on here throughout the dynasties and learn a little more about the notable figures, this is the place to go. And the good thing about this museum, unlike most of the others in town, is that there are pretty lengthy English explanations. There are even constant exhibits in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery. This summer, they've got the National Treasure Exhibition where you can see pieces from the Wuyue State, which controlled this area in the 1st century AD. Sorry, no English for this one.
