La Pedrera's second location has some very high expectations to meet. The original is a long-time staple just of Baishaquan and has built a loyal following over the years. Opening up a second location in the budding Westbrook Resort is an exciting move for Chef Junior; younger brother of the head chef at the original.
The MORE crew was delighted to have an opportunity to try out the new menu, and it is, indeed, quite new. All your favorite tapas are still there, such as Marinated Olives (24RMB), Spanish Omelettes (18RMB), and our personal favorite, the Fresh Prawns with Garlic and Olive Oil (28RMB). The main course offerings are where things got interesting. One comes to La Pedrera expecting seafood, steaks, and, of course, Paella. As of now, none of those are on the menu, although Junior plans to offer single serving Paella in the near future. Instead, they are serving up what we believe could be the best burger in all of Hangzhou. Homemade burger with thyme, gouda, avocado, and onion sauce, it was simply incredible. It's 60RMB and comes with fries and a salad. We are looking forward to trying the Falafel Veggie Burger with Yogurt Sauce (58RMB). They also have salads and sandwiches for a healthier meal, most notably the Bacon, Chicken, Tomato, and Avocado (48RMB), and the Ham, Mushroom, Cheese, and Onion (52RMB), both are served with fries. The Junior's Salad with Chicken, Mango, Avocado, in a sweet orange vinaigrette (48RMB) was refreshing. If you've saved room for dessert, don't miss the Catalan Cream with Blueberry and Cinnamon (38RMB). We chased everything down with a pitcher of Sangria (80RMB). They have a solid selection of beers and an extensive wine selection. Mojito's run 35RMB and are made with fresh mint grown in-house. Overall, with the addition of sandwiches and burgers, as well as a stage for live music, it would appear La Pedrera Numero Dos has a flavor all its own. We feel confident it is going to generate its own loyal following in no time. We will certainly be back, if only for another burger.
